Is a Sphere or Cube better computationally

Hello, I am trying to model metatmaterials using perfectly matched layers with the physics Ectromagnetic Wave Frequency Domain. Specifically I am trying to see the scattering effects from a spherical nanoparticle.

I was wondering which geometry would be better computationally for the outer boundaries of my model.

Based off of my limited testing it seems the sphereical outer boundary takes longer but I do not know why.

I know the sphere would take up less volume but I was wondering if the sphereical shape might cause problems with the perfectly matched layers.
